about
I’ve been thinking about all the ways for me to take action as an ally in the Black Lives Matter movement, and felt I had to do my job as an artist (and one that wouldn’t exist without black culture). I’m releasing a new single called “Rain” with 100% OF THE PROCEEDS going to Black Lives Matter organizations - including streams, sales, sync revenue, etc. The song starts with audio recorded on my iPhone from one of the many peaceful protests here in NYC, and the general statement is a hopeful one that we won’t go back to how things were before all of this. We can’t.
Pay a dollar or pay more. Whatever you can.
lyrics
Breath stopped long before the rain
Innocence fading out
We no longer know life before the rain
Leave the light on
We’re fading out
We let it go
We’re sinking in
The water’s cold and rippling
But no one knows
What dry is anymore
So no, we won’t go back to life before
We let it go
It’s sinking in
The streets are filled and rippling
But no one knows
What dry is anymore
So no, I won’t go back to
A system that suffocates within
Jesus Christ, we have to win
We drown before we learn to swim
So no, we won’t go back to life before the rain
Entirely analog, lush melodic pop with a tender heart from L.A. artist Human Barbie sounds bigger than the bedroom project it is. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 22, 2020
Market, from Melbourne, fuse soul and chillwave on a wonderfully woozy song with rubbery guitars & breathy harmonies. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 19, 2020
The Seams' jangly pop is full of lovely melodic twists and elegant turns-of-phrases delineating the quotidian details of love and romance. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 5, 2018
